Dream Big and Aim for the Stars Little Barack and Little Sarah

These days, life is so much more complicated than that and children are so much more sophisticated than just a decade ago. My children, my two girls for example, do dress up in their room and do pretend to play and sing and dance and act out High School Musical numbers. They sing along with the CD playing in their portable player. They do the hands on the hips and they act out parts of Troy and Gabriella from High School Musical.

Children need to have fun and learn that they can have dreams and grow up to be someone famous. Did Barack Obama know as a child that he would someday be running for the President of the United States? I doubt it. He lived with his grandparents in Honolulu, Hawaii from the fifth grade on through high school. Did little Sarah Palin play with her dolls and ever dream of running for Vice-President? Did she ever play with dolls? Actually, when Sarah was young she would sometimes go moose hunting with her father before school.

So, who is going to be the next President of the United States? Barack Obama? John McCain? Will Sarah Palin make it or will Joe Biden be serving as our next Vice-President. Either way, history will be made as Barack Obama may beome the first African American as President or if the Republican Party wins, Sara Palin will become the first woman Vice-President of the United States.

The point is that anybody in America can grow up to achieve and become anything they want. Never give up your dreams. Even if the current situation seems bleak. Work hard, stay focused on your desires and make them a reality. You can become anything you want to become and don’t let anyone, including yourself, tell you otherwise. Here are a few inspirational images.. Have a wonderful day and always walk tall and walk in peace.

Walking In Love

Walking in love requires a certain type of muscle to be exercised.  The heart is the muscle in question.  Normally a long walk would require a stretching of the muscle through a short warm up program.  Then, you begin the main portion of the activity where the muscle groups get a great workout.  Then, lastly a warm down to once again stretch the muscles in a cool down to prevent soreness later.

Walking in love, God’s love, is more of a continous stroll that you take down life’s path.  Walking in love is to step out of one’s own selfish desires and to get out there and help someone else.  Start out small, like a warm up, and eventually you’re heart muscle with crave longer, larger needs of giving and helping and loving.

You don’t have to be a religious finatic to walk in love.  Give of your self to someone else by donating your time at the local library.  Volunteer to help at a school function, be a class mom or dad.  Help someone take their groceries to their car.  It’s the small things in life that create a better place to live for all of us.  Sometimes, just a small soft spoken word of encouragement can change a life forever.

I remember when my son was born.  He was born two weeks early and had fluid in his lungs.  I had a C-Section and as the doctor took him out I heard that sweet sound of a baby cry and then it suddenly stopped.  I couldn’t see what was going on, I could only hear the anxiousness in the nurses voices.  A stat this and a get him breathing and they whisked him out of the surgery room.  I prayed that he would be ok and my doctor doing the surgery took my hand and said they’ll take care of him.

After I had returned to a regular hospital bed and had rested for a few hours, a different doctor came in and gave me an update on my baby.  He said they were going to transport him to a different hospital just a few miles down the road where they had a NICU (a neonatal intensive care unit) that specialized in newborns.   They wheeled my baby in and he was strapped in a transporter.  It was one of those plastic incubators that you see in the movies when the new babies are born and the family is looking in at them through the glass window in the nursery.  I couldn’t hold him or touch him or let him know everything was going to be ok.  He was in an induced medical coma so he wouldn’t hurt himself and so the breathing tube in him could do it’s job and provide the oxygen his little body and brain needed to stay alive.   He was born 7 lbs 11 oz., so he was a good size baby, his lungs were just a little underdeveloped.

I was released from Whittier Hospital three days after the C-section, and my husband took me over to the other hospital down the street, Whittier Presbyterian Hospital, to the NICU section where my baby was still in critical condition and the news was day by day as to whether he would make it through or not.  I was still very sore, so my huusband got a wheel chair and he wheeled me in to where all the special babies were.  Some were only a few ounces in weight and would be there for many months.  I looked at the incubator where my little baby lay and I started to cry when I saw all the needles coming in and out of him.  The head nurse on that shift that morning came over to me and put her hand on my shoulder.  She said he is doing well, he had a few rough moments, he is still not out of danger.  She said he was a fighter and they had  to sedate him even more than normal because he wanted to start breathing on his own and his little lungs still had some fluid in them.  She said I’ll be right back and she walked over to the nursing station and pulled something off the wall.

She came back and had a picture of another baby.  The baby in the picture was sitting up and was about four or five months old and had a big smile and looked like the perfect baby.  She said a few months ago this beautiful, healthy little girl was lying there just like your baby and look at her now.  It may seem like he is in a bad situation, but I’m sure he is going to be just fine and will be like this little girl in a few months.  For the next few days, I lived by her words and my little Jeremy made a full recovery.  He was released two weeks from the date he was born and his lungs were completely clear of any fluid.  My heart goes out with a gratitude of thanks to all the nurses, who work in an NICU, especially Mila and the other nurses there at the Whittier Presbyterian in Whittier, California.  They are so loving and caring and understanding.

My little guy is now in his terrible two’s and I love him to death.  Everytime he gets sick with a little runny nose or a cough, I’m reminded of how fragile he was and how he nearly died and how that wonderful NICU nurse made that one kind gesture that I will remember forever.  Make an effort today to walk in love.  Your heart will leap for joy.

Humor Is The Best Medicine

One day a father was on his way home from the office and he suddenly remembers that it’s his daughter’s birthday. He pulls over to a Toy Shop and asks the sales person, “How much for one of those Barbie’s in the display window?”

The salesperson answers, “Which one do you mean, Sir? We have: Work Out Barbie for $19.95, Shopping Barbie for $19.95, Beach Barbie for $19.95, Disco Barbie for $19.95, Ballerina Barbie for $19.95, Astronaut Barbie for $19.95, Skater Barbie for $19.95, and Divorced Barbie for $265.95.”
The amazed father asks: “It’s what?! Why is the Divorced Barbie $265.95 and the others only $19.95?” The annoyed salesperson rolls her eyes, sighs, and answers: “Sir . . . Divorced Barbie comes with : Ken’s Car, Ken’s House, Ken’s Boat, Ken’s Furniture, Ken’s Computer, and one of Ken’s Friends.

Humor can get you through most instances in life. If you’re feeling stressed, depressed, angry, sad, lonely, or experiencing any other negative emotion, reading or hearing a good joke can relieve some of the negative feelings and bring about a lighter side to life. Start your day with reading the comics in your daily newspaper.

Humor also helps in understanding a difficult subject. Studies have shown that students seem to learn more when teachers use humor effectively. Humor can also increase effectiveness in the workplace. Let’s face it, the people around you in your workplace become your extended family. When you spend 40 or more hours with them, it helps if a few of them or yourself has a sense of humor and can lighten things up in the workplace. If everyone always had an “all work and no play” attitude, the hours would drag by forever. It really helps when your supervisor has a good sense of humor and uses it effectively to make the workplace more enjoyable.

Humor is also effective in helping to heal whether emotional or physical healing is needed. Studies have shown that “humor helps patients relieve stress and heal.” You can read a great article from Science Daily here Laughter Is The Best Medicine-Science Daily . Anyway you look at it, using humor effectively can bring a smile to anyone who may need it.

I listen to the radio at work and every week morning the DJ tells a joke. Most of the time it’s a little corny and always a rated “G” joke. It doesn’t matter what the content is, becuase in most cases it makes you laugh, it helps you to forget about other things weighing on your mind; it makes you feel good.

So, go out there and walk and be happy and enjoy life and stay positive and feel good about yourself and laugh. Laughing is contagious, spread it everywhere you go. Here’s one more…have a happy day.

Please feel free to leave a comment.

It’s Free, This is Heaven
This 85 year old couple, having been married almost 60 years, had died in a car crash. They had been in good health the last ten years mainly due to her interest in health food, and exercise. When they reached the pearly gates, St. Peter took them to their mansion which was decked out with a beautiful kitchen and master bath suite and Jacuzzi.
As they “oohed and aahed” the old man asked Peter how much all this was going to cost.
“It’s free,” Peter replied, “this is Heaven.”
Next they went out back to survey the championship golf course that the home backed up to. They would have golfing privileges everyday and each week the course changed to a new one representing the great golf courses on earth.
The old man asked, “what are the green fees?”.
Peter’s reply, “This is heaven, you play for free.”
Next they went to the club house and saw the lavish buffet lunch with the cuisines of the world laid out.
“How much to eat?” asked the old man.

“Don’t you understand yet? This is heaven, it is free!” Peter replied with some exasperation.

“Well, where are the low fat and low cholesterol tables?” the old man asked timidly.

Peter lectured, “That’s the best part…you can eat as much as you like of whatever you like and you never get fat and you never get sick. This is Heaven.”

With that the old man went into a fit of anger, throwing down his hat and stomping on it, and shrieking wildly.

Peter and his wife both tried to calm him down, asking him what was wrong. The old man looked at his wife and said, “This is all your fault. If it weren’t for your blasted bran muffins, I could have been here ten years ago!”

Lake Vail Resort in Temecula CA

I took a much needed vacation and took the family to Lake Vail in Temecula, CA. It’s official title on the website is Vail Lake Village and RV Resort. I wanted to get out of town for a few days and I wanted to travel just out of reach of the city, so it seemed like we were making a significant change in scenery even though it was only a 50 mile drive from our house, keeping the gas expense to a minimum. Lake Vail is located about 100 miles from Los Angeles off of the 15 freeway on Route 79 South. The resort is ideal for RV camp goers as well as those who want to rough it and use a tent. The campsites are large enough for the RV and a tent. Most of the sites have a table and a fire ring. We barbecued every evening. We cooked chicken, had salmon one night, did the usual hot dogs and hamburgers and the ever-important S’mores after the sun set while sitting around the campfire.

We went out to the area of the campsite where the pools are located. It was hot in the sun, but the water in the pool was refreshing. The bathrooms and the whole pool area were very neat and clean. I would recommend this RV resort to those interested in having a relaxing time with the family. The resort also has a water slide. The water slide has an attendant and they watch the kids go down. The resort also has a small gathering area where on weekends they serve up Carne Asada dinners for $8.00 a plate and they have a band providing entertainment. It’s a great place to take the family after a fun day in the sun.

We went miniature golfing on their green set up with 18 holes. It was a great time for the kids. This was the first time my six year old had ever experienced miniature golf and she had fun trying to master her swing. At one point she whacked the ball into the next playing field and another point she was so close to the hole, but the ball barely budged because she was learning control and she didn’t want to hit it too hard. Back at camp, there was plenty of space for the kids to play catch with a football, throw a Frisbee around, and play catch with a softball. There were exerting energy, and they were staying active. They didn’t even miss the play-station or TV which were left behind at home on purpose.

All-in-all it was a fun time had by everyone. The kids stayed busy and the adults could relax without the annoying phone ringing or deadlines pending. I spoke with several different “neighbors” who were camping nearby and they said this resort was a great place to camp on the weekends. Most visitors arrive on Friday evening after work and leave on Sunday. Lake Vail Resort a great place to get away. The outdoors promotes physical activity for all ages and all levels. In the evening, we took a walk around the campsite and enjoyed seeing the sunset and the smell of camping. If you have ever been camping, you know the smell. It’s a mixture of trees, fresh air and the smell of firewood burning at a campsite. Gotta love it!

Here are some helpful sites to link to while setting up a camping trip for vacation. We stayed five days, but a weekend getaway can help relieve some of the day-to-day pressure that builds up at work. We got a campground finder book from the Auto Club, we made our RV Rental reservations through El Monte RV and we booked our Lake Vail Resort reservation by calling the number on their website. The “website available” camp sites seemed to be a little out of sync with the available sites when calling a live person. I would recommend a call to them to confirm available spots before booking. We preferred the shade in the Oaks area. Happy Camping.
