The Right to Vote is a Powerful Thing
The right to vote is a powerful thing. As an individual, our voice can get drowned out. However, as a group of collective individuals, our voices can be heard and change can come about because of a united stand. I am proud to be an American. I will vote today because I have the opportunity to have my voice heard. The Presidential race is on the line as well as some very important local propositions that can steer our country in a new direction. I used to think that my vote wouldn’t count. That by the time the people on the east coast voted that the outcome was pretty much guaranteed. My opinion changed when they had to recount the Florida votes and the whole country was waiting on the tally of one state. That’s when I knew that one vote could make a difference.
As long as I am an American, with all the rights and privileges that come with that prestigious title, I will continue to vote. If I don’t vote, then I should not have a right to complain when the outcome is not how I wanted it. If I do vote and the outcome is different than how I would have wanted it, at least I contributed. What if you and I decided it wasn’t worth it to vote because we don’t think our small contribution makes a difference. Then, what if all the people who drove a red car decided they weren’t going to vote because their small contribution wouldn’t make a difference. And what if the whole state of California decided to boycott the elections? Do you see what I am getting at? The power of the people is only as strong as the unity that we create when we all decide to get out there and claim our right to vote. The freedom to vote is a powerful, beautiful thing. Exercise it with pride
